Love My Baby
May 01, 2002
"Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." - John 20:29b
I wrote this poem on Mother's Day afternoon 2001, the first Mother's Day after we lost our Madeline Rose due to ectopic pregnancy. It is in response to how I felt that day.
Love My Baby
Won't you love my baby? She is real, I promise you, though you cannot see her.
Won't you love my baby? Instead of pretending that she never existed or was a tumor or ruptured appendix.
Won't you love my baby? For she is part of me, now and forever. She kissed my heart and changed it forever.
Won't you love my baby? It's Mother's Day and I am a mother too, though I hold no child in my arms.
Won't you love my baby? For every person conceived, not just born, is worthy of the our love.
Won't you love my baby? For to love my baby is to love me.
- Rebecca "Becca" Stare, momma to Madeline Rose, born into Heaven on Nov. 14, 2000, due to ectopic pregnancy
"Madeline, you still take our breath away!"
