A Freak Accident
Dec 26, 2002
June 1 2002. A day that I will never forget as long as I live. The day our son died and our lives changed forever. Many say Michael died doing what he loved but I can't find comfort in that. Doing something you love shouldn't kill you. Michael died racing motocross, something he loved doing. His plan that day was to dominate the track and win another trophy. To this day I am not even sure what or how his accident happened. It has been called a "Freak Accident" which to me means it shouldn't have happened. We do know that he lost control going over a jump and when he came down crushed his chest on the handle bars. He had $1,ooo of safety gear on but it didn't matter. In a matter of minutes his life ended. In a matter of minutes our lives changed forever. We went from being a very close family of 5 to one of 4. His 14 year old brother, who was also his best friend watched his brother crash and had to ride in the ambulance to the hospital while they were trying to save Michaels life. It breaks my heart that he had to wait alone for us in the emergency room. I will never forget that place. I will never forget begging the social worker to please let me see my son. I begged and begged but they said in a few minutes. The next thing I know they are telling me there is "NO HEARTBEAT" I had to ask if he was dead. The next thing I know he is laying on a table with a tube down his throat dead. That was it. We never saw him alive again. Now he is buried in the ground and I can't stand it. I want him back. I want someone to fix him and let him come back home. I can't stand it anymore. He shouldn't have died! I am sorry this is so long. Thanks for listening.
