A Senseless Death
Oct 27, 2002
On November 29th, exactly 1 month after my daughters 13th birthday she was killed. Leigh Anne was a spirited girl who loved life. She was with a friend on a rainey night. She crossed a quiet street and a speeding car hit and killed her. She was hit 1 block from the Hospital, and never regained conciousness. She lasted about 4-6 hours before her final organs gave out. Unfortunatley, because of the rain, and crime scene being unsecured not to mention lack of a witness the man walked away scott free. In court we requested to speak to him, his wife apologized, but to this day he has not admitted he was speeding (this was a 50 khm zone-not mph). That is the worst of all- all he can say is how he is afraid for his children in case something like this happens to him. I find it hard to get out of bed most days and it does not seem to get any easier. My only consolation is that she never knew what hit her, and never suffered (we hope).
It was such a senseless killing and it's hard to reason it. With Christmas coming it gets harder and harder. It's almost been a year and I miss her more than ever. You teach your children to look both ways, cross at light etc... but it only takes a second.
She was my only child and I cannot even begin to explain how hard its been, it has taught me though to try and say those things to people that you put off and make sure the ones you love know it.
