A Devastating Loss
Dec 12, 2002
At nine weeks pregnant I began to have some spotting. I tried to connvince myself this was normal, but within 24 hours I started having a dull, low back ache and was passing tissue. I went to the hospital where an ultrasound determined my baby had died three weeks ago. I was devestated, as we had planned this pregnancy and looked forward to our baby "Carter" or "Isabella" so much. Being metis, I spoke about my experience with an aboriginal woman who had suffered a similar loss. She told me that the elders told her that our little spirits were out there somewhere, and that the grandmothers were looking after them. She said that what mother nature takes from us, she gives back. I find a great deal of comfort in thinking that my little one will come back to me, and that it's out there somewhere being looked after by our anscestors. I hope that you can find some comfort in this as well.
