Dear Mommy
Nov 07, 2002
Dear Mommy,
I had to leave you
I didn’t want to make you cry.
But an angel touched my fledgling locks,
and said I had to fly.
I shuddered though the angel’s face
was warm and seemed so wise.
Because I turned and saw heavens swirl
in your misty, longing eyes.
‘How can I leave my mommy’s dreams,’
to the angel, this I cried.
‘What throbbing rent?
What time not spent,
What void will I leave behind?’
‘My mommy is my closest friend.
How can you call this to an end?
Don’t you know,
she needs to hold me
in her loving arms?
Who will she hug?
Play with on the rug,
How will I now feel snug?
The angel gathered me in his arm
and as he began to fly
I asked him if he would give me time
to tell my mom goodbye.
Indeed he paused, holding me aloft
as he turned I almost cried.
Eternity looked back at me
through my mommy’s loving eyes.
‘You will join again,’ the angel said
My mommy’s heart and mine.
‘Just say so-long and pray farewell.
There’s no need to say goodbye.’
So long mommy. Farewell
Your loving son
