My Baby Is In Heaven
Sep 02, 2002
My name is Debra and I am 24 years old. My husband and I found out that I was pregant several weeks after we had gotten married. It was our first time trying, so we were extremely excited. But not too much later, I started having a menstrual period when I shouldn't have been having one. My husband took me to the emergency room of a local hospital because I was convinced that I was having a miscarriage. I was given a blood pregnancy test, so that my HCG levels could be tested. The test confirmed that I was indeed pregnant. I had an ultrasound done, but no baby showed up on the screen. I was told that the baby was probably too small to be seen, so I should wait for about 2 weeks and go see an OB/GYN. I tried to wait for the 2 weeks, but I kept on bleeding. So to make a long story short, I went to the ER several more times and they kept telling me to wait and see an OB/GYN. Finally I was able to set an appointment with an obstetrician. I went in and saw him. He gave me the normal exams the pregnant women receive. I found out that I was 8 1\2 weeks pregnant. At the end of the appointment the doctor told me that everything was fine. But no sooner than I had left his office, I was overcome with intense pain. As soon as my husband and I got home, I was in such great pain, it was almost impossible for me to get out of the car. I had to literally crawl up the stairs into our apartment. It took alot of convincing, but my husband was able to convince me to go back to the ER. We went back, and that was when I started bleeding. I had another pregnancy test done, and the doctor told me that my HCG level was less than half of what it should have been. I had another ultrasound done, and that was when it was revealed that my ectopic pregnancy had burst and that my abdomen was full of blood. I was prepped for immediate surgery. I had a laparascopic procedure done. Three incisions were made in my abdomen. I lost my baby and my right fallopian tube. After everything was said and done, I remember feeling so empty. My husband and I had wanted this baby so much. It's almost like winning the lottery, and then having someone come and steal all of your money. One thing that does keep me going is the fact that I know my baby is in heaven. That is very comforting.
