Lost Friends

Lost Friends
LindaC

Friends are here today yet are gone tomorrow.
They depart quickly in silence.
They do not want to feel my pain.
I have become like a leper.

There is now no one to share the joys with.
I have been cast aside like an old pair of shoes.
I understand that it is not comfortable.
Have they thought how uncomfortable my life has become?

I face yet more losses to come
Each friend finds an excuse
They turn away and leave me confused,
Living in a forsaken place.

I thought that I had true friends who would stand beside me
But as time goes on I find that assumption was wrong.
Friends are few and far between.
A true friend stays by your side, leading you through the pain.

This is a time when I need my friends the most.
Why do they all turn away?
I lack the energy to work at making new ones.
Why can't things stay the same?

I long for days when I could share with a friend.
Those days have vanished in the wind.
Now I cover my emotions so as not to upset anyone
They don't understand that all I need is them.

There is nothing they need to say.
It is important just to know they are there.
I need to know that someone really cares.
Maybe then I won't feel so very alone.

A simple hug or kind word means so much.
Someone to hold my hand when I am sad.
All I need is to know you are there.
I need to know someone cares.

Friends come and go,
It does not ease the hurt
I go through life so very alone
I have lost yet again.
