Trying to Understand

Trying To Understand
LindaC

In silent passages of time
I sit and ponder unanswerable questions.
The stillness lingers
While I keep asking why.

I don't understand why this had to happen.
But I do understand it did.
I wish I could have helped you
You thought you had things under control.

You didn't have control my son.
The drugs had you in their grasp.
You have left us in a barren land
Devoid of pleasure or joy.

Addiction kills families
Not just the person who is using.
So much life is wasted
And parents silently grieve.

I sit in quiet loneliness
And still my heart wonders why.
It is a question that can never be answered
And I must accept.
